PARENT-TODDLER

The Parent-Toddler program at Sandy Hill is designed for children who turn 2 before September 1st of the current school year. We will meet one day per week (Monday or Tuesday) for 1 hour and 30 minutes each time. The daily schedule will include circle time with music/movement and stories, indoor and outdoor exploration, and snack. An important part of class will focus on parent education as well. Parents will have the opportunity to learn about their child’s developmental phases, acquire new positive parenting tools, and problem solve specific situations with a certified parenting instructor.

The program’s goals are:

  • To provide parents with a comfortable first step into their Sandy Hill preschool experience
  • To provide a support system and community network
  • To provide parents with an opportunity to observe their own child interacting with their teachers, other adults, and peers
  • To provide parents with strategies for understanding appropriate developmental stages for their child, behavioral challenges, as well as tools to redirect behavior.

Parents are expected to stay for the duration of the class with their child.

Class will be held in the Parent Tot classroom from 9:00-10:30 am on Monday and Tuesday and 11:00-12:30 on Monday. Class size is limited to 8 students and their parent. Cost is $80/ month.

SUMMER SCHOOL

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to have your child experience summer at Sandy Hill!!!

The summer program at Sandy Hill is full of art activities, fun social opportunities, and a relaxed atmosphere. This is a great opportunity for you and your children to experience and become connected with all Sandy Hill has to offer before the fall school year begins. For alumni, it is a great opportunity for your child to revisit a place where such special memories were created.

Themes Explored: The beach; 0utdoor exploration; Picnics; Camping; Travel and plenty of water play (time to whip out the swim suit).

There will be two sessions between July 13th and July 24th . Each session is for one week. Three options are available: 2 day (Tuesday and Thursday), 3 day (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) or 5 day (Monday – Friday). Alumni up to 3rd grade are encouraged to attend with younger siblings. Older siblings of enrolled students are also encouraged to attend with their sibling. It is a great opportunity for them to experience school together.

Registration is on a first come first served basis and is due no later than April 24th, 2015

The summer program is offered at extended times for your convenience –

What you need to know

Potty Training: Children must be COMPLETELY potty trained to enroll in the summer program.

Snack and Lunch Info:  An organic snack will be provided late morning and will consist of crackers and fruit. Please provide children with a water bottle. Children bring their own lunch. Sandy Hill currently has a policy against sodas, cookies, candy, peanuts (you will find many nut alternative spreads at your local grocery store) and other “junk food” items.

In order to prepare your child for their first day, I suggest you speak positively about Sandy Hill and all the fun things they will experience. You should also include your child with preparing their lunch. This can start with picking out a lunch box (remember to find one your child can open on their own) and shopping at the grocery store. The night before their first day at school/camp allow your child to help pick out what they would like in their lunch. If using plastic containers or Zip-Lock’s, practice opening. This process will allow them to take ownership of their belongings and develop self confidence.

ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

The Sandy Hill After School Enrichment Class is an after school program for the enrolled Pre-Kindergarten children(MWF) at Sandy Hill Nursery School. The program provides an alternative afternoon activity that will engage the children and enhance their learning experience through a developmentally appropriate, “hands on” approach. We will stay true to Sandy Hill!

The Enrichment Program will be offered every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (unless otherwise listed) for Pre-K children during the school year.
Time: 1:00-1:45

Cost: $13/day

Outdoor Classroom

“In our bones we need the natural curve of hills, the scent of chaparral, the whisper of pines, the possibility of wildness” Richard Louv, Last child in the woods

What is the Outdoor Classroom? –   Each week we will visit a local park and explore the wilderness around us.

The class will follow the children’s interests and make discoveries to reach new summits. This will naturally lead to further investigations into native plants and animals. Building forts and group games will challenge social interactions as we re-enforce connections to nature. Using all of our senses and moving our bodies will strengthen self confidence and awareness of the world. This program is a one day program in addition to the MWF program.  It is designed as an “add-on 4th day” open to MWF children.

Logistics:

  • Offered to MWF students with a maximum of 12 students.
  • Class will consist of students from MWF Treetops, Footprints, and Pinecones classes.
  • Taught by Miss Kacy and Miss Paula.
  • Held on Tuesdays 9:00-12:30.
  • Classes held at a few different, local locations, such as San Dieguito Park and San Elijo lagoon.
  • Children dropped off and picked up at park by parent.
  • The Outdoor Classroom is an add-on option and children must be enrolled in the MWF program.

“We need the tonic of Wilderness” Henry David Thoreau
